Match Report: Yorkshire Post: 24th November 1919:

LEEDS UNITED V BARNSLEY RESERVES

Leeds United opened their Midland League programme before about three thousand sectators on the Elland Road ground. The conditions were not exactly favourablefor the best class of football, but even so, the quality of the exhibitions, considering the past history of the majority the home players. Of the eleven players, eight at different times had represented clubs in either the first or second Divisions of the League. Naturally individualism predominated over combination, but this fault will probably disappear as the men become better acquainted.

The United had a slanting wind against them in the first half, and they did not score. Neither did Barnsley, who were the slightly inferior side. Leeds opened the second half at a great pace, and for a short time seemed capable of great things, but they came down to the level of their opponents and it was not until seven minutes from the finish that a really scoring shot was delivered by either team. Mason then crashed the ball against the Barnsley cross-bar, but the teams left the field without a goal being scored.
